On productions where animation is done in TVPaint or another program like Harmony, most of the time the background art is painted in Photoshop and imported into the animation program. PS brush tools are what they are familiar with and prefer using.
I think the main reason for wanting Photoshop brushes recreated in TVPaint is for background painting or illustration, because most artists in the industry who paint background art for animation are accustomed to using Photoshop. And there are many, many fine TVPaint custom brush sets shared in the Contents Sharing forum if you want various types of pens and pencils for more variation in the line work for animation or additional custom brushes for painting illustrations or animation backgrounds. There is nothing "broken" about the TVPaint brushes that necessarily needs to be "fixed" by the addition of Photoshop brushes. That brings up a good point: the default brush tools in TVPaint work perfectly well for animation. has translated his PS brushes into TVP, but so far I've only seen him animate/color with the tools TVPaint already comes with.Īaron uses his PS brushes only for painting, not for animation. If you're into using this program for graphic design like making infographics or posters, you can utilize the tools i guess? but fair warning that the tools/interface can be VERY restricting. But strangely enough, it does offer a preview button and you can make simple gif animation on their official site. Instead, you'd have to export your individual frames and import it to any editing software you have to animate it. If you're thinking of installing this for animating or something close to that, it can feel a tad time consuming since you can't really animate here. It offers layer effects like what you would see in Photoshop but unlike the latter, albeit it does have some cool brushes installed, you can't fully customize the brush or canvas texture here. As far as free drawing software goes, FireAlpaca is user-friendly, as in it has a vv basic tools and functionalities.
